The Department of Forestry and Natural Resources at Purdue University is seeking a Ph.D. student to fill a Graduate Research Assistantship position in digital forestry. The successful applicant will engage in research focused on tree mortality mapping at NEON sites using multi-source remote sensing data including airborne LiDAR, orthorectified imagery, Planet data, and Sentinel-2 imagery. The successful applicant will work closely with Dr. Jianmin Wang and Dr. Songlin Fei and have the opportunity to collaborate with scientists in the Institute for Digital Forestry at Purdue University (https://ag.purdue.edu/digital-forestry/). The assistantship includes a stipend, a tuition waiver, and health insurance.
Requirements:
· Preferred qualifications include
o a M.S. degree in remote sensing, ecology, forestry, or a related field.
o experience with remote sensing data.
o strong quantitative and writing skills.
o experience in machine learning/deep learning is desirable but not mandatory.
